Clos Galena, the Priorat winery founded by pharmacist Miguel Pérez and currently run by his wife Merche Dalmau, celebrates its 25th anniversary with the launch of a commemorative wine: ‘Clos Galena 25 anys d'un somni 2022’. This unique red wine, limited to 1,398 numbered bottles, is a special edition that will not be produced again.
Winemaker Toni Coca describes this wine as ‘a blend of subtlety, body and freshness’. It was made from a careful selection of the best grapes from up to 14 of the winery's own plots surrounding the winery in El Molar. The 2022 vintage was marked by challenging weather conditions, including three heat waves from May onwards and temperatures exceeding 40 °C. Despite the extreme drought, fresh wines were achieved, and the DOQ Priorat Regulatory Council rated the vintage as excellent.
In terms of its sensory profile, the wine has a ruby-cherry colour, with slightly tinted tears. On the nose, it offers fragrant notes of rose petals and ripe fruit, especially plums, blueberries and cherries, with a subtle background of vanilla. On the palate, it is fresh and velvety, with tannins that suggest good ageing potential. There are also balsamic notes of rosemary, spicy hints of white pepper and a minerality reminiscent of graphite.
Merche Dalmau recommends pairing this wine with dishes such as grilled veal entrecote with potatoes cooked in the embers, veal shank with mashed potato glaze from the Saddle restaurant in Madrid, or Loire goose royal accompanied by a goose magret canapé from the Via Veneto restaurant in Barcelona.
This launch not only celebrates the winery's anniversary, but also pays tribute to the dream and perseverance of its founders, reflecting Merche Dalmau's dedication to continuing her husband's legacy and consolidating Clos Galena's presence on the international wine scene.
