Clos Galena, a Priorat winery, celebrates its 25th anniversary with the launch of a commemorative wine: "Clos Galena 25 Anys d’un somni" (25 Years of a Dream). This limited edition consists of 1,398 numbered bottles, each priced at 125 euros. The wine, with a fruity, fresh, and elegant profile, is made from garnacha, cariñena, syrah, and 1% cabernet sauvignon. Additionally, historic vintages of Galena and Clos Galena from the winery’s wine cellar will be released to the market.
Founded in 1999 by Miguel Pérez in El Molar, the winery began with eleven hectares of its own vineyard at the Solana estate, which now spans nearly thirty hectares. After Miguel’s passing in 2013, his wife Merche Dalmau took over the management, leaving her job at a pharmacy in Reus to fully dedicate herself to the project. She is supported by Toni Coca in technical direction and Enric Amorós as the vineyard manager, along with new additions such as Montse Caellas in marketing and Cristina Pérez Dalmau, Merche and Miguel’s daughter.
Currently, Clos Galena produces 155,000 bottles annually: 95,000 from the DOQ Priorat, 50,000 from the DO Terra Alta, and 10,000 from the DO Montsant, exporting 70% of its production to countries such as Switzerland, Germany, Puerto Rico, and Mexico. Merche Dalmau has expressed concern about the ongoing drought affecting the Priorat, which has significantly reduced production and poses a risk to the survival of the vineyards.
The winery also participates in charitable projects and promotes wine tourism to foster knowledge and preservation of the region. One of its greatest achievements was in 2017 when its wine "Formiga de Vellut" became the first Catalan wine served at the Nobel Prize dinner in Stockholm, boosting its international recognition. Additionally, at the end of 2023, Clos Galena received the Winery of the Year award in Paris at The European Awards, organized by the Professional and Business Excellence Institute. In 2024, it will also participate in the Decanter Fine Wine Encounter Tasting in London.
