Merche Dalmau, owner of the Clos Galena winery in El Molar, Priorat, celebrates the 25th anniversary of the winery, a pioneer in the production of organic wines. After the passing of her husband and founder, Miguel Pérez, in 2013, Merche took over the business, facing significant challenges. While she acknowledges an increase in the presence of women in the wine sector, she points out that there are still few women in leadership positions. Her daughter has recently joined the family business, which Merche views positively as a step toward generational succession.
Currently, the winery is facing a 50% reduction in production due to the drought, a situation that concerns Merche, and she calls for government support. She emphasizes that, since its inception, Clos Galena has committed to organic production, aiming for a sustainable future for the new generations. Among the winery’s achievements, she highlights the "The European Awards" as Winery of the Year and the selection of their wine "Formiga de Vellut" for the Nobel Gala in 2017. Although they prioritize the local market on certain occasions, Merche mentions that they are exploring new markets in Latin America and Asia. For the future, her wish is to continue working with enthusiasm, adapting to new times, and learning from criticism.
