Clos Galena, a winery of the Priorat Qualified Designation of Origin, celebrates its 25th anniversary since its foundation in 1999 by Miguel Pérez, pharmacist and oenologist, in El Molar, Priorat. After Pérez's death eleven years ago, his wife Merche Dalmau took over the management of the project, combining it with the raising of their three daughters. Clos Galena currently produces 155,000 bottles a year, of which 95,000 belong to the DOQ Priorat, 50,000 to the DO Terra Alta and 10,000 to the DO Montsant. The winery owns 30 hectares, 20 of which are dedicated to organic vineyards. However, the persistent drought in the region has significantly reduced production and raises concerns about the future climate and the resilience of the vines.
To commemorate the anniversary, a vertical tasting of several vintages of Galena and Clos Galena wines was organised at the Via Veneto restaurant in Barcelona, where a special commemorative wine was also presented.
