Clos Galena, a winery located in El Molar, Priorat, has celebrated its 25th anniversary. Founded in 1999 by Merche Dalmau and her husband Miguel Pérez, both pharmacists, the winery was established with the goal of producing high-quality organic wines in a region characterized by extreme climate conditions and slate soils. After Miguel’s passing in 2013, Merche continued the project with the support of winemaker Toni Coca and viticulture manager Enric Amorós.
In 2017, their Formiga de Vellut 2014 wine was selected for the Nobel Prize banquet in Sweden, marking the first time a Catalan wine was served at this prestigious event. This recognition significantly boosted international demand for their wines.
Currently, Clos Galena exports 70% of its production and participates in international events such as the annual tasting hosted by British magazine Decanter in London. To commemorate its 25th anniversary, the winery has launched a special edition wine: Clos Galena 25 Anys d'un Somni 2022, made from Garnacha Negra, Cariñena, and Syrah, sourced from vineyards aged between 30 and 80 years old.
