The Swedish press describes as “fantastic” red wine Formiga de Vellut 2014 (DOQ Priorat) served at the dinner of the prestigious awards.
Formiga de Vellut 2014 from Clos Galena winery (DOQ Priorat) is one of the three wines that has been served at the 2017 Nobel Prize banquet held this Sunday, December 10, in Stockholm (Sweden). Formiga de Vellut is the first Catalan wine that has been served at the Nobel dinner at least in the last 10 years of the awards history and has shared a table with the Taittinger Brut Réserve champagne and the white wine Viña Errázuriz Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc 2016.
Formiga de Vellut is a blend of black grenache (60%), carignan (20%) and syrah (20%), a full and powerful organic wine with a fleshy and velvety finish, with ripe and fresh tannins. The aromas of red and black fruit stand out, with balsamic and spicy notes. The wine is aged for 8 months in French (80%) and American (20%) oak barrels » see Formiga de Vellut tasting notes.
The owner and manager of Clos Galena, Merche Dalmau, assures that “it is a great honor that Formiga de Vellut 2014 wine has been served to harmonize the Nobel dinner, being part of the most intellectual table on the planet, it helps to reconfirm the quality of the wine as well as the value of the Priorat DOQ region in a mature market such as the Swedish one that pays special attention to the organic and environmentally friendly wines.”
Clos Galena celebrates that a Red wine from DOQ Priorat has been chosen to celebrate the Nobel Awards giving the opportunity to Formiga de Vellut wine, Clos Galena winery, and Priorat and the territory to be present with the most privileged minds on earth.
To pair with a tasting menu signed by Stadshusrestauranger in collaboration with chef Tom Sjöstedt, Merche Dalmau also celebrates that the Swedish Press has described the wine as “fantastic”, a fact that can contribute extending its presence in the Swedish market as well as in other markets. » see Banquet 2017 Nobel Prizes Menu.
Formiga de Vellut is a wine to enjoy the personality of the DOQ Priorat which, in recent years, has received very good reviews and ratings in the guides and the specialized press. It’s especially interesting to note that the 2012 and 2013 vintages were awarded with Gold Medal at Mundus Vini BioFach, the international organic wine competition » see Formiga de Vellut Ratings & Awards.
