The third edition of the Tarragona Academy Gastronomy Awards was held on 19th May at 6:30 PM in the Tarragona Town Hall Meeting Room. These awards recognize the achievements of the Tarragona province food industry professionals.
The aims of the awards are the research, knowledge, promotion and dissemination of food culture and cuisine, based on the food industry for the whole of the Tarragona region, with special emphasis on sustainable agriculture, seasonal produce, fishing and responsible hunting and free-range farming. It also includes the production of wines with a sense of place, the recovering of indigenous products, locally produced artisan foods and the up-keeping of local traditions.
Clos Galena Winery, Miramar Restaurant, Reus Vermut, La Ostra de la Ampolla and Amposta’s and Poble Nou del Delta’s Artichoke Food Fair were the winners of the III Awards of the Tarragona Gastronomy Academy. Diego Campo’s professional career was also recognized, as well as the social work carried out by the Food Bank in Tarragona and a special mention was given to ice-cream maker, Antonio Sirvent.
Award winners were presented with artwork, made by Joan Blázquez and finalists received a diploma. Zapater wished to congratulate the academy “for promoting the city from the gastronomic point of view” and the Academy’s chairman highlighted the fact that Tarragona “is a gastronomic gem”.
